First Look: Safari 3 Beta for Windows

After attending the keynote address of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference today, I downloaded the public beta of the Apple Safari 3 Web browser both for Mac OS X 10.4.9 and Windows XP. (It also runs on Vista.) It runs reasonably well, although its features aren’t drastically different from what’s already available with Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7. If you run Safari on a Mac, however, this might be your preferred Web browsing solution.

Google updates webmaster guidelines

At SMX Advanced on Monday, Matt Cutts talked about our webmaster guidelines. Later, during Q&A, someone asked about adding more detail to the guidelines: more explanation about violations and more actionable help on how to improve sites. You ask — we deliver! On Tuesday, Matt told the SMX crowd that we’d updated the guidelines overnight to include exactly those things! We work fast around here. (OK, maybe we had been working on some of it already.)

Google adds Timeline and Map views for search results

Google has a new search idea that lays out results on a timeline or a map. In their page on experimental search features they say

“See results on a timeline or map. With the timeline and map views, Google’s technology extracts key dates and locations from select search results so you can view the information in a different dimension. Timeline and map views work best for searches related to people, companies, events and places.”

  1. Akismet: Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web serivce to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use this service. You can review the spam it catches under “Manage” and it automatically deletes old spam after 15 days. I highly recommend this plugin. Continue
