The Payoff Reel is used to hold coils in place
while being processed. Graduations located on the mandrel shoes assist the
operator when centering a new coil. Once loaded, the mandrel is hydraulically
expanded with the push of a button. A full 152 mm expansion range is standard.
The Reel mandrel is equipped with an expansion limiting system. The system
automatically prevents small coils from being over expanded as the coil's O.D.
decreases. A computer regulated automatic brake control is also available to
assure proper back tension is being applied for a given coil weight and type of
material. As a coil gets smaller, the system automatically reduces back tension.
A tail-out sensor automatically stops the line at the end of the coil. In
addition the system detects coil slippage by comparing mandrel rotation to the
linear footage of material that has been processed. The Reel can also
incorporate an auto centering system. As the coil is processed, if the strip
walks off centerline, the Reel automatically compensates by moving in the
opposite direction until the coil is once again centered. To assure quick
installation and minimal cost, the Reel is designed with legs that support the
full coil weight without requiring special foundations.
